Kihaa Maldives
Kihaa Overview
Kihaa Maldives is currently facing significant challenges as a resort. The information and photos originally presented here are no longer representative of the reality on the ground.
Once hailed as the "Jewel of the Oceans," Kihaa Maldives was a thriving paradise in the Baa Atoll, known for its stunning beaches and vibrant marine life. However, in recent years, the resort has fallen into disrepair, and while it remains partially operational, guests should be aware of its current challenges before booking.
The water villas are deteriorating, with some crumbling into the sea, while many beach villas stand abandoned and poorly maintained. The once-pristine beaches are now overgrown with weeds, and guests frequently report issues with mosquitoes and insects across the island. The resort is severely understaffed, which has resulted in many of its facilities being closed—including the spa, kids' club, bars, and most restaurants. The only available dining option is the main buffet restaurant, which offers a very basic standard of food.
For those seeking activities, the dive centre remains open, along with the main swimming pool, but little else is available in terms of entertainment or services. Villas that are still in use may experience maintenance issues, with some guests reporting power outages and lack of upkeep. The horses that were once kept on the island are no longer present, a positive change as they were never suited to the delicate Maldivian environment.
While Kihaa Maldives still benefits from its incredible natural surroundings, guests should carefully consider their expectations before booking. With limited services, ongoing maintenance issues, and a lack of operational facilities, the experience here may fall short of the typical Maldivian luxury escape. If you are looking for a seamless, high-quality island retreat, it is worth considering alternative resorts in the Maldives that continue to offer full-service luxury experiences.
