How to get to Vakkaru Resort

There are two transportation options available to reach Vakkaru from Malé airport. The first involves a 30-minute picturesque seaplane journey, while the second entails a short domestic transfer to a nearby airport on the island of Dharavandhoo followed by a 30-minute speedboat ride. Our primary recommendation is the seaplane option, as it is considered the optimal choice. It's worth noting that boat-only transfers to Vakkaru are not available due to the considerable distance from Malé.

Vakkaru Location

Situated within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Vakkaru Maldives 125km or 80 miles north-west of Malé.

Your Arrival at Malé Airport (MLE)

Upon arrival at Malé airport in the Maldives, after clearing security at the arrival’s hall, a resort guide will be there to greet you. They will guide you to the appropriate location for your onward transfer to Vakkaru and can also assist with handling your luggage.

Your onward journey depends on your decision between a seaplane or a domestic transfer:

Option 1 - Seaplane to Vakkaru

Your resort guide will help you and your belongings into a transport vehicle bound for the seaplane terminal, just a short taxi ride away. Once at the terminal, you can check in and await your seaplane flight. In the resort's private lounge at the seaplane terminal, you'll discover a luxurious space to relax before your island transfers. Here, guests can enjoy complimentary light refreshments, snacks, and WiFi access.

Vakkaru employs the use of Manta Air seaplanes for their transfers. These seaplanes are among the latest additions in the Maldives, operating on a predefined schedule to minimize any potential waiting time for passengers.

When aboard the seaplane, the flight is expected to last around 30 minutes; nevertheless, transfers may extend slightly if they involve dropping off guests at other Baa atoll resorts.

Seaplanes touch down on the water near Vakkaru. Upon arrival, you'll step onto the arrivals jetty and be able to walk to the island. Resort staff will be on hand to aid guests and manage luggage.

Option 2 - Domestic Transfer to Vakkaru

The closest airport to Vakkaru is situated on the island of Dharavandhoo. The recommended domestic carrier is Maldivian Air however they may also use Flyme (Villa Air) on occasion.

This brief and direct flight, lasting approximately 20 minutes, has no stops along the way. Upon arrival at the local airport island, you'll proceed to board a speedboat for a 20-minute journey to your ultimate destination – Vakkaru.
