Updated: 2024-04-15T13:44:18.316Z

There are two ways to reach Dusit Thani Maldives from Malé airport. The first option invites you to embark on a scenic seaplane journey, while the second involves a domestic transfer to a nearby airport followed by a quick 10-minute speedboat ride. Both routes typically have around 35 minutes travel time. Generally, we recommend the seaplane option as the preferred choice. It's important to note that direct boat transfers to Dusit Thani are not available due to the considerable distance from Malé (124km or 77 miles).

Your Arrival at Malé Airport (MLE)

Following your arrival at Velana International Airport, an airport representative will warmly welcome you at the arrival terminal. The dedicated team members will accompany you, guaranteeing a smooth and seamless transfer to the resort.

Opting for either a seaplane or a domestic transfer will determine the direction of your onward journey:

Option 1 - Seaplane to Dusit Thani

Your resort guide will assist you and your belongings into a transport vehicle for a short drive to the seaplane terminal. Once at the seaplane terminal, guests have the privilege of relaxing in the exclusive Dusit Thani Maldives private lounge. Here, complimentary refreshments, tea, coffee, and light snacks are provided for your enjoyment whilst you await your seaplane flight.

Dusit Thani uses Trans Maldivian Airways seaplanes for transfers to the resort. With the most extensive seaplane fleet in the Maldives, Trans Maldivian Airways has earned a commendable track record for reliability.

Once you're on the seaplane, the flight usually takes about 35 minutes, but keep in mind that transfers may be slightly extended if guests are being delivered to other resorts in the Baa atoll.

Seaplanes gracefully land on the water just off the island. Upon reaching the island, you'll disembark onto the arrivals jetty and proceed to walk to the island. The attentive resort staff will be readily available to assist guests and handle luggage.

Is a seaplane or domestic transfer better?

Typically, we recommend a seaplane transfer to Dusit Thani. Seaplanes are an iconic feature of the Maldives, providing stunning views at a low flight level. The journey is truly extraordinary and is a must-try experience.

However, there are instances where a domestic transfer might be a more suitable choice. Opt for a domestic transfer if any of the following conditions apply:

  • International flights arriving in the Maldives after 3pm Malé time (seaplanes only fly during daylight).
  • You don't want to go on a seaplane, or you have limited mobility which would make it difficult.
  • A cheaper transfer option is preferred or you have a significant amount of luggage
