To reach Canareef Resort Maldives, you can take a 95-minute domestic flight transfer from Malé airport (Velana International) to Gan International Airport, followed by a brief 10-minute speedboat ride to the resort.

Due to the considerable distance from Malé (540km or 335 miles), boat-only transfers to Canareef Resort Maldives are not an option.

Your Arrival at Malé Airport (MLE)

Upon arriving at Malé airport (Velana International) in the Maldives, after clearing security and entering the arrivals hall, you will be warmly greeted by a resort guide. They will be holding a wooden sign displaying the name "Canareef Resort Maldives" and will be ready to assist you in finding the designated area for your domestic transfer to the resort. They can also provide assistance with your luggage as required.

Your resort guide will accompany you and your belongings to the domestic airport terminal. At this location, you can await your flight while relaxing in the complimentary Moonimaa Lounge*, where refreshments are provided.

Gan International Airport (GAN) stands as the closest airport to Canareef Resort Maldives, situated in the southern part of the atoll. Maldivian, the country's primary domestic carrier, operates regular flights to this destination. Their fleet comprises air-conditioned ATR-72 and ATR42 turboprop aircraft, as well as Dash 8-200 and Dash 8-300 aircraft, renowned for their robust design, advanced safety features, and reliable performance.

The flight to Gan lasts approximately 95 minutes from Malé, followed by a 10-minute speedboat journey across the small Addu Atoll (previously known as Seenu Atoll) to the resort.

Do I have to travel by domestic transfer?

Canareef Resort Maldives exclusively relies on domestic transfers for guest transportation. Due to the significant distance between Malé and the Addu (Seenu) Atoll, seaplanes are unable to fly to the resort.

Nevertheless, there are distinct advantages to opting for a domestic transfer:

  • The arrival window for your international flight is much larger with a domestic flight as they aren't limited to flying during daylight hours - like seaplanes
  • Domestic flights are more easily accessible
  • They are usually the cheaper transfer option

Will I get a certificate for crossing the equator?

Absolutely! When you travel by domestic transfer from Malé to Gan, you'll cross the equator. In celebration of this special crossing, all guests who journey to the island via domestic flight will be awarded a personalized Equator Crossing Certificate, bestowed by the Captain of the airplane.
