New and Refurbished Resorts in the Maldives
New and Refurbished Resorts in the Maldives
The Maldives, an archipelago renowned for its stunning natural beauty and luxurious hospitality, continues to captivate travellers from around the globe with the introduction of new resorts. These fresh additions to the Maldivian hospitality landscape are designed to offer unparalleled luxury, pristine surroundings, and state-of-the-art amenities, ensuring that visitors experience the very best in tropical relaxation and adventure. Each new resort aims to blend seamlessly with the natural environment, providing guests with a harmonious retreat where the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches serve as a picturesque backdrop.
In addition to the construction of new resorts, existing ones are frequently refurbished to maintain high standards of luxury and comfort. These refurbishments often include updating the interior design, expanding facilities, and incorporating sustainable practices to preserve the delicate ecosystem of the islands. Some resorts may even close temporarily during these refurbishment periods to ensure that the work can be carried out efficiently and without disturbing the peace and tranquillity expected by guests. These closures, while temporary, are essential to maintain the level of excellence that the Maldives is known for.
The continuous development and enhancement of resorts in the Maldives reflect the country's commitment to providing exceptional experiences for its visitors. Whether through the introduction of cutting-edge amenities, unique dining experiences, or immersive cultural activities, the Maldivian resorts strive to offer something for every traveller. As a result, the Maldives remains a top destination for those seeking an idyllic escape, complete with luxurious accommodation and the stunning natural beauty that the islands are famous for.

Resorts in Trouble
Some resorts in the Maldives have recently faced significant challenges. Financial difficulties, poor infrastructure maintenance, and mismanagement have led to guest complaints and operational disruptions.
Kihaa Maldives
Kihaa Maldives has faced mounting issues, with reports of deteriorating infrastructure, including water villas reportedly crumbling into the sea. Guests have also raised concerns about unexpected charges and poor service and food quality. Many booking agents are taking them off their books and they are no longer listed as a resort on the Maldives Ministry of Tourism website fuelling speculation about potential closure and operational instability.
Rahaa Resort
The bank has announced the sale of Rahaa Resort and two other islands owned and operated by the same company, due to failure to pay back a loan and non payment of taxes. Rahaa Resort has been grappling with financial and operational problems. Employees have reported delayed salaries, and the resort is allegedly behind on rent and penalties owed to the state. Guests have also faced inconveniences, such as having to cover connecting flight costs due to the resort’s payment issues.
