How to get to Dreamland Maldives

Updated: 2024-01-11T14:43:50.635Z

Reaching Dreamland from Malé airport can be accomplished through two options. The first option includes a captivating seaplane journey, while the second includes a domestic transfer to a nearby airport, followed by a speedboat ride. Both avenues typically take around 30 minutes to complete. Generally, we suggest the seaplane transfer as the recommended choice. Notably, there are no direct boat transfers to Dreamland due to its distance from Malé (122km or 75 miles).

Your Arrival at Malé Airport (MLE)

After landing at Malé airport (Velana International) and going through security into the arrivals hall, a resort guide will be on hand to welcome you. They will guide you to the specific location for your onward transfer to Dreamland and can lend a hand with your luggage.

Depending on your preference for a seaplane or domestic transfer, your onward journey will follow different paths:

Option 1 - Seaplane to Dreamland

Once you land, your resort guide will help you and your belongings into a vehicle for a quick transfer to the seaplane terminal. At the terminal, you can check in and wait for your seaplane flight. Meanwhile, enjoy close-up views of the seaplanes or access a lounge with refreshments for an extra fee.

Dreamland uses Trans Maldivian Airways seaplanes for transfers to the resort. Trans Maldivian Airways boasts the Maldives' most extensive seaplane fleet and has established a reliable track record.

Expect the seaplane flight to last approximately 30 minutes, though transfer durations might be a bit longer if guests are being delivered to other resorts within the Baa atoll.

The seaplanes make a water landing just off Dreamlands shore. Upon arrival, you'll disembark onto the arrivals jetty and be able to walk to the island. Resort staff will be present to assist guests and handle luggage.

Option 2 - Domestic Transfer to Dreamland

The nearest airport to Dreamland Maldives is the island of Dharavandhoo. The preferred domestic carrier is Manta Air which have regular flights to Dharavandhoo aboard air-conditioned ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft, known for the lowest greenhouse gas emissions and unrivalled fuel efficiency.

This is a short, straight flight with no stops along the way which takes around 20-minutes. From the local airport island you'll board a speedboat for a 10-15 minute ride to your final destination - Dreamland.

Is a seaplane or domestic transfer better?

In general, we advise selecting a seaplane transfer to Dreamland.

Seaplanes are an iconic element of the Maldives, offering mesmerizing views at a low flight level. The journey is truly exceptional and adds to the overall experience.

Nevertheless, there are scenarios where a domestic transfer might be more suitable. You should choose a domestic transfer if any of the following conditions apply:

  • International flights arriving in the Maldives after 3pm Malé time (seaplanes only fly during daylight).
  • You don't want to go on a seaplane, or you have limited mobility which would make it difficult.
  • A cheaper transfer option is preferred or you have a significant amount of luggage
